Hecticは90年代のストリート・ウェア・ブームを受け当時日米を飛び回るプロスケーターとして活躍していた、江川芳文と原宿の古着店ビンテージ・キングのバイヤーを勤めていた、レコードコレクター真柄尚武によって94年に自分達が欲しい服やグッズを買える場所が欲しいという目的の元、原宿にオープンしました。USや海外のインポート物を扱うセレクトショップは、渋谷のLondisやELTを始め、代官山のDetenteやNeverlandなどが当時ありましたが、Hecticは、江川のスケーター感覚による独特なセレクトと、真柄のマニアックなヒップ・ホップ要素で構成され、毎月の様に、Polo, Fila, Helly Hansen, Nauticaなどのスポーツウェア、AdidasやPumaのスニーカー、そしてアメリカのお菓子、ミックステープ、12 inchレコードなどの雑貨が入荷し、精肉店のショーケースを模した棚を飾っていました。こうしてセレクトショップとしてスタートして間もなく、NYとLAへの買い付けを繰り返すうちに懇意となった、GFSのStashが立ち上げたNYのブランドSubwareとLAの旧友で元X-Largeの店長Paul.TのブランドSarcasticを買い付けのラインアップに加え、当時のフレッシュでクリエイティヴなストリート・ブランドを日本に紹介する架け橋役として機能すると同時にオリジナルブランドのPKGやSeesaw, MadHectic, Masterpieceを立ち上げ、内装のリニュアルを繰り返した後、99年に道を1つ挟んで東側の遊歩道に場所を移し、内装やサイズをアップスケールさせ現在の店舗 realmad HECTICをオープンさせました。現在も江川と真柄はオリジナル・ラインを継続させながら、アメリカやイギリスを始めとして世界中の自分達にとって魅力的でエッジなストリート・ブランドやアーチストをセレクトし日本に紹介し続けることに奔走しています。
Biography
Hectic opened its doors in 94' by Yoshifumi Egawa and Naotake Magara to house all the gear and items that they would like to see under one roof. Yoshifumi being a Professional Skateboarder with a lot of time spent in California and Naotake being a record and vintage work wear collector, they teamed up to create a unique line up of clothing alien to the ongoing Tokyo scene at the time. Every month they would fly to numerous cities in the US to find gear, sneakers, mixtapes, rare 12 inches and even candy to bring back to sell in their carpeted meat butcher style showcase adorned store. Couple of years after, what started as a small selection of clothing brought back from the US, turned into a gallery of fresh and dope street brands after adding no bull shit brands such as Subware from NYC and Sarcastic from LA and then their own small street wear projects such as PKG, SeeSaw, Mad Hectic and MasterPiece to the line up, this gave the locals a wider spectrum of the 90's hard hitting raw street wear movement domestic and overseas. Fast forward another 4,5 years and a couple of renovations later, the store upscaled its size and moved east 2 blocks to find it's new home that we see now, still keeping the in-house street labels alive and thriving to find new and fresh street brands and artists from all over the world to introduce to the Japanese market.
